Portal to Remembered Spaces, 2025
about
Orange County based artist Lily Tsutsumida is both a multidisciplinary artist and a professional art therapist who specializes in art-based methods of meaning-making and personal growth. Lily’s work as an artist is driven by two distinct passions. The first is her love of exploring new materials and fabrication processes, which lends a distinct diversity to her portfolio. The second is her fascination with the joys and pains of the human experience, a focus that is interconnected with her work as a therapist. Lily uses a broad palette of media in her articulations of memory, loss and personal narrative, incorporating woodwork, assemblage, fiber art, casting, drawing, photo transfer and mixed media techniques into a synthesis that speaks to the layered, gritty and rich nature of the human condition.
Lily is also invested in community-based projects, and is currently offering a pro bono guided art process supporting Eaton Fire survivors in creating assemblage art to honor their lost homes, which culminates in workshops and artist talks to facilitate community healing.
Lily has exhibited in group shows at Brea Gallery, Los Angeles Makery, Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, Chemers Gallery, Acme 62, Greenly Art Space, Location 1980 and Studio 18. Solo installations of her work have been featured in local businesses including Escape Salon and Moongoat Coffee.
She holds an MA in Marital & Family Therapy and Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California and a BA in Art from Pomona College in Claremont, California.
